AmeriCorps volunteers dedicate a year to community service, living at or below the poverty level while they give back to the communities they serve. Allie generously gave two years to New Orleans and we can’t thank her enough for her service!
Allie Aherne finished her AmeriCorps term with Beacon in July. She had been serving as a volunteer coordinator, assisting with training and supervising volunteers and coordinating with homeowners.
Allie hailed from Chicago, IL where she was raised in the polite Midwesterner tradition. Since graduating from Loyola Univ. Chicago, she relocated to New Orleans following a 2007 volunteer trip which piqued her interest in community development and activism. Allie came to Beacon during her second AmeriCorps term in New Orleans.
Ali said interacting with volunteers from near and far was her favorite part of the job. The volunteer department is really going to miss Allie’s help. “Allie was an amazing worker who was very dedicated, great to be around with a positive, friendly attitude,” said Beacon’s Volunteer Director Heather Huth.
Thank you Allie for all of your service!
