Following the success and popularity of the public BlightStat meetings, the City of New Orleans has launched a series of similar interdepartmental meetings that are open to the public. It is in a combination of demonstrating “transparency in government” and in realizing the value of citizen input that the City has set four regularly scheduled ”Stats:” QualityOfLifeStat (first Thursday of the month), BlightStat (second Thursday of the month), ReqToChecksStat (third Thursday of the month), and BottomLineStat (fourth Thursday of the month). Mounted Division! With support from the community, essential funds will be raised for training, technical equipment and crime-fighting supplies for police officers of the Mounted Division. Thanks to funding from the Allstate Foundation, Beacon of Hope will be able to assist 15 Gentilly homeowners restore the exterior of their homes. One of the first recipients of the grant funding was Ms. Mildred, who is retired from Charity Hospital and has lived in her Fairmont Park home since 1997. Several volunteer groups worked on the home: Providence College from Rhode Island prepped and caulked the house, Ithaca College from New York painted the siding, trim and porches, while a group from Grace Church (also New York) completed the landscaping.
