Denise Thornton attended the Executive Education Program at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2007. Denise has received numerous honors and awards including New Orleans Magazine’s Top 10 Female Achiever Award, City Business Innovative Business of the Year Award, Alliance For Good Government Civic Leader of the Year Award, Friends of New Orleans Hero Of The Storm, Young Leadership Council Role Model Award, Liberty Torch Award from Anti Defamation League, AFP Board of Directors Award, City Business Innovative Business of the Year Award, Litigation Management’s Professionalism Award, Public Relations Society of America Hornblower Award and was named one of the 10 Heroes of the Storm by the Times Picayune. In addition, Denise has served on the Louisiana Serve Commission, Fleur-de-Lis Ambassador, New Orleans Crime Coalition and is a graduate of the Citizens Police Academy.

Tina Marquardt has over 23 years of corporate and entrepreneurial sales, advertising and consulting experience, holding positions from sales manager, finance director, business development manager and marketing and advertising manager. She owned and operated a private consulting company, providing consulting for businesses in need of management and sales and marketing training. In the fall of 2007 Tina joined the Beacon staff and oversees the daily operations while simultaneously serving on numerous neighborhood committees and governmental advisory boards including, Helping Seniors Inc., NPN Task Force, Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance (GNOHA), and NORA

Ashley Christensen has two years of volunteer and construction experience in the greater New Orleans area. After graduating college she located to New Orleans to join in the recovery efforts, working with a faith based recovery program as a Site Leader / Volunteer Supervisor. She is from Cedar Falls, Iowa where she attended Hawkeye Community College and worked as a Non-Foods Assistant Manager at a local grocery store as well as a Youth Group leader at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Martin Huber holds a BS in Philosophy/Religion from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. Martin has over ten years of nonprofit experience in volunteer management, program management and special event coordination. Prior to joining Beacon of Hope, Martin served 4 years working in AmeriCorps programs, two years of which focused in hurricane recovery. Working closely with the Executive Director, Martin works on fundraising, technical assistance, grant reporting, and program development.

Heather Huth holds a Business Administration degree in Marketing from the University of New Orleans. She worked for five years with Ming Products as manager, keeping the books and providing marketing direction. Following Hurricane Katrina, she joined Beacon of Hope as a key volunteer providing work supervision for our thousands of visiting volunteers. She joined the staff in spring 2007 and currently serves as Volunteer Coordinator, responsible for overall direction of the volunteer program.

Originally from Minneapolis, Laura Mellem received a BA in Critical Theory and Social Justice and a minor in English and Comparative Literature from Occidental College in sunny Los Angeles. Laura came to New Orleans in the fall of 2009 as an AmeriCorps VISTA serving as Volunteer Coordinator at the 7th Ward Neighborhood Center. With a passion for neighborhood-level organizing and social justice, Laura is excited to continue with Beacon of Hope as the Neighborhood Development Program Manager.

Laura Partridge moved to New Orleans in August 2010 from Birmingham. She holds a Communication degree from Huntingdon College in Montgomery. Laura worked in the television, state, non-profit and local business worlds obtaining a wide variety of administrative and management experience. She joined the Beacon’s staff as the Executive Assistant in September 2010. She is responsible for overseeing daily office operations and manages the Harrison Avenue Market Place.

Jason Stopa is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BA in History and holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning Program from the University of New Orleans (UNO). At UNO he specialized in land use, environment, blight and urban agriculture. He has led projects to address distressed neighborhoods and develop community mapping projects. He also has 2 years experience as a Relationship Banker, where he provided community outreach through youth financial education programs.
